Day 1 of 21
The Word became flesh
“The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John doesn’t begin with a baby in a manger. He goes back further: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Then comes the sentence that changes everything: “The Word became flesh and lived among us.” The God who made the stars came close enough to touch, with a name, a hometown and dust on his feet. By the end of the chapter, people are meeting him. “Come and see,” says Philip to his friend Nathanael. That is still the invitation.
What does it mean to you that God came close?
Answer in your journalPrayJesus, Word made flesh, thank you for coming close. Help me come and see.
